your spiritual wellbeing
Spiritual wellbeing is not about your religion; although your faith in God, the Universe or your own divinity can enhance your sense of wellbeing because you feel a connection to something greater than yourself.
Spirituality is about your inner world - your experience of your inner self. It is also about your connection to nature and to all of life. In a broader sense, sometimes spirituality can refer to a belief in life after death, psychic ability or past lives. But it can sometimes be more beneficial to think of it in a holistic sense; that you are intrinsically connected to all in the cosmos.
Reiki has its origins as a system for spiritual development, rather than the therapy it has become recognised as today. Reiki literally translates as 'Universal Life Force energy' and refers to subtle energy (not unlike electricity) which runs through all living things. The practice of Reiki involves consciously facilitating this natural flow of energy which can promote health and wellbeing in a very natural and gentle way.
Those that regularly experience Reiki, either from a practitioner or through self-practice, may sense a deeper connection and a feeling of inner stillness, with all the benefits that can bring.

for adults
- Explore the spiritual side of yourself by being open to your intuition (gut feelings) and synchronicities (coincidences). Think of yourself as part of a bigger picture than just who you are in your body now. Consider your ability to be the designer of your life rather that the victim of circumstance.
- Spend time in nature - walking through the park, petting a dog or paddling in the sea. Nature has an amazing calming effect and fresh air stimulates the senses and brings us alive!
- Meditation and mindfulness are much mis-understood and there are many methods of both. But the simplest ways are also often the most effective. Sitting quietly and focusing on the leaves dancing on the breeze or with eyes closed allowing thoughts to drift away, is both meditative and mindful. Even ten minutes a day can bring a sense of being refreshed and over time you will feel calmer and gain perspective on the trivialities of life.
for children
- Children have a greater sense of themselves and have a natural affinity with animals and the outdoor environment. They can also be surprisingly empathetic and intuitive. While they do need to be grounded in reality, they should also be enabled to explore their creativity, imagination and enjoyment of the natural world.
- Sitting quietly is not something children want to do - but they can gain a similar experience of meditation or mindfulness by becoming engrossed in their own play. The value of play for children (and adults) is crucial for wellbeing, including educational wellbeing.
- Older children can be encouraged to consider themselves as part of a bigger world and recognise their ability to create positive change for themselves and others.
